TNA Impact Results 7/1/10

We’re shown a recap of Abyss’ dramatic heel turn to bring new viewers up to speed.

After the video package, we’re sent back to the Impact Zone broadcast already in progress with Abyss tossing a bunch of chairs inside the ring, then he walks over and terrorizes a bunch of kids, taking their chairs, and tossing those inside as well. He then turns his focus to So Cal Val, who is backing away in fear, but Hulkster’s music hits and he walks to the ring as the crowd is roaring! Abyss looks cautious, but goes to enter when Eric Bischoff rushes out to talk down Hulk. This gives security time to enter the ring and try to calm the situation. They fail miserably, of course, when Bischoff calls Abyss an ungrateful SOB and slugs him! Abyss is about to kill Eric, but Hogan slams him in the back with a few chair shots until reinforcements can arrive. Jeff Hardy rushes out to an explosion of screams from the females in the audience, drops Abyss onto the pile of chairs, and hits a brutal Swanton Bomb! Abyss makes it to his feet as security holds back Hardy, saying tonight Hardy is his.

It’s sent back to Mike and Taz, but out of nowhere Abyss is up at the broadcast table, which terrifies Tenay. Taz stands up to protect him, but Abyss points at him shouting “YOU!”. Security tries once again to restrain him (you think they’d learn…), but he starts to beat the poop out of them to lead us into our first round of commercials for the night.

Back to Impact, we’re shown Abyss destroying the backstage area during the commercials. Hulk is in the back with Hardy and Bischoff saying they need to “end” Abyss tonight.

Ink Inc vs. Motor City Machine Guns:

The Guns are back and the crowd is loud as hell! Moore starts it off with Shelly, taking him down with a leg sweep, into a reversal, bouncing off the ropes and backflipping to get behind the downed Shelly for a kick to the back! Moore sends both of the Guns outside and suicide dives into them. The crowd is not happy at this kind of beat down for the Guns’ in ring return and they says so with a flurry of boos. But they make a comeback with a series of double team moves! Devon comes to the broadcast table about this time, saying he’s ringside to make sure his brother doesn’t interfere. The Guns meanwhile have Moore cornered, but Moore lands a reversal and crawls over to tag in Neal, who is a house of fire! Spear on Shelly! Sabin sends Moore outside, but he turns right into a sidewalk slam! Brother Ray walks down the ramp, and Devon sees him and goes down to stop him! But the distraction makes Neal lose his focus on the turnbuckle, and Guns get the sliced bread double-team finisher for the win!

Winner: Motor City Machine Guns

Tenay and Taz are interrupted suddenly by Eric Bischoff, who announces tonight’s main event: Jeff Hardy vs. Abyss, with RVD as the special guest referee!

Dixie Carter is shown entering the building, and Tenay notes that it’s unusual for her not to be in the Impact Zone. Someone in the backstage crew asks her about it, but she doesn’t answer them.

AJ Styles (Rank: 4) vs. Samoa Joe (Rank: 6)

AJ tries to lock up with Joe, struggling, as the crowd tells him Joe is going to kill him. AJ gives him a hard chop, but Joe returns the favour, sending him across the ring! Joe delivers his signature speedy beat down in the corner. Sends him to the next corner for a yakuza kick! Leg drop of the ropes onto AJ, and Joe is dominating! AJ finally gets some offense in with a dropkick, and some time spent choking Joe on the ropes. AJ scoops up Joe and just HULKS UP to bodyslam him, damn! He goes to follow up with a suplex, but Joe resists and turns it around. HUGE elbow to the forehead of AJ! Senton backsplash! AJ looks totally out of it and he nearly is set up for the muscle buster, Joe counters with kicks, AJ grabs the third kick for a dragon screw! Great exchange! But as AJ goes to cover, Joe catches him in a rear naked choke out of nowhere!

Winner: Samoa Joe

Flair and Kaz, who were watching ringside, enter the squared circle and are not happy. Flair gives AJ a tongue lashing, and Kaz turns and grins arrogantly as he leaves with Flair. AJ grabs a mic as they walk up the ramp, and asks Kaz what he thinks is so funny. He says he’ll beat Kaz in this ring, and challenges him to a match next week! Kaz looks a bit unsure, but Flair is ecstatic!

Bischoff and Hulk are shown in a meeting with Dixie discussing how they’re going to handle Sting’s actions, when Kevin Nash walks in, only to be sent away. Hulk says to Dixie if Sting isn’t fired, TNA will be a sinking ship. Dixie sighs and says she’ll have a response tonight.

Submission match: Desmond Wolfe vs. Brian Kendrick

Kendrick gets caught in the corner taking off his jacket, but is CRAZY fast with a leaping kick to the head, and a brief choke to Wolfe. Williams, the X Division champ, is on commentary talking about his opponents, as Wolfe delivers some brutal uppercuts. Williams says Kendrick just watched an episode of The Ultimate Fighter program and learned one submission move, ohhhh burn! Taz mentions that next week Williams is in a ladder match, and is insulted that he wasn’t made made aware of this. As Wolfe tries a grounded head scissors submission, Chelsea walks out which distracts Wolfe, and Kendrick locks in a vice-like cobra clutch for the win.

Winner: Brian Kendrick

Footage is shown of a TNA cameraman trying to get some answers from Tommy Dreamer, but he refuses.

The Pope returns to a standing ovation, and he’s ready to address his congregation. Pope is very emotional, saying moments like these make busting his butt in the ring worth every second. He says he couldn’t have done it without the congregation, and he says even at only 80% recovery, he still has the obligation to lead the congregation. He says he hasn’t forgotten about Anderson, and he’s pulled the wool over people’s eyes with his deception. Pope mentions that he’s still in the top 10 despite being injured, and says he’s here for one reason and one reason only, to work his way back to the #1 spot and make history.

Suddenly, he’s interrupted by,…Kurt Angle? Tenay notes that it seems Angle and Pope have the same goal. Angle first and foremost, welcomes Pope back, saying when he sees him, he sees the future of TNA. But he says unfortunately their paths have crossed, and at Victory Road it will be the two of them squaring off. He says may the best man win, and shakes Pope’s hand.

Jay Lethal is on the mic talking about Flair and AJ’s attack on his younger brother last week, and challenges them both to the ring. But instead of either men, his opponent for his scheduled match comes out.

Morgan grabs a mic of his own, and starts talking about Fortune, saying he was the first person Flair asked. Uh, when was this? Anyway, he says he hasn’t quite made his mind up, apparently. He says there’s one thing he and Flair can agree on, but before he can finish his sentence, lethal throws the mic at him and this match is underway as Morgan changes in.

Jay Lethal vs. Matt Morgan

Morgan sets off a series of back elbows in the corner and delivers a sidewalk slam to Lethal. He doesn’t let up. And gives him a releases suplex in answer to a desperation cross body. He puts Lethal’s throat on the ropes and delivers his signature running leg lariott. Lethal struggles to his feet, and manages to avoid the Carbon Footprint. Lethal mixes it up with chops and knee kicks, then a huge dropkick on a kneeling Morgan. Morgan sends Lethal outside, and Supermex rushes to the ring and delivers a low blow! Lethal capitalizes and gets the pin!

Winner: Jay Lethal

Abyss is in back mumbling to himself about “them”, and holding a board with nails sticking out, saying this could really hurt someone.

Madison Rayne vs. Taylor Wilde

Wilde grabs a leg and takes down Madison, but Madison back up with a HUGE spear! Madison has REALLY stepped up her game in this match. Taylor with a big slap to the chest of Rayne! Taylor on the outside and they get a double clothesline. Tommy Dreamer and company comes down to their seats to a ear-splitting ECW chant! Madison got the pin somehow, sorry I was distracted by the excessive cleavage in this match…

Winner: Madison Rayne

Angelina rushes in immediately following the bell, bringing in a chair, but Madison manages to duck under the ropes and escape. Angelina takes a seat and smiles and Rayne retreats.

Sarita is the back beating the HELL out of Taylor for some reason. Security tries to separate the two, and Taylor eats a CLUBBING blow as she is restrained. Mike and Taz cringe simultaneously.

Dixie is in the rafters, and it looks like she’s finally found Sting. She tells Sting that he’s become a cancer in TNA, and effective immediately he’s suspended for 30 days without pay, and the crowd boos profusely. Sting shouts and asks he saying it isn’t about money! Dixie is confused, and asks him what it is about, and Sting says he’s been trying to tell her all along. But Eric interrupts and says the talking is over, armed with security nearby (they’re having a busy night, it seems). Eric looks at Sting straight in the eye and says that 30 days in now indefinite. Security hauls Sting away, and Bischoff says he’s going to hire security for Dixie.

Abyss vs. Jeff Hardy (w/ RVD as Special Referee)

Jeff Hardy manages to rush at Abyss and knock the nail-studded board from abyss, sends him outside, and finishes with a slingshot dive. Hardy goes for the twist of fate on the floor, but Abyss shoves him into the ring post! He takes the dazed Hardy and drives him into the ring steps! Back inside, Hardy is sent into the corner HARD. Hardy hits the ropes and goes for a leg lariott, but Abyss catches him and reverses into a sidewalk slam! Abyss grabs a chair, and RVD takes it from him somewhat nonchalantly. Abyss goes to grab it back, but it gives hardy a chance to blindside him! Double leg drop to the midsection! Whisper in the wind for a 2 count! Abyss lands a big boot, goes off the ropes and hit as a MASSIVE splash!! Shock treatment attempt, but it’s reversed into the twist of fate! Hardy begins to climb the turnbuckle to finish it, but Abyss climbs to the top rope himself to try to chokeslam Hardy to the floor! But hardy elbows him off and quickly launches into the Swanton for the win.

Winner: Jeff Hardy

But once the match is over, Abyss chokeslams hardy and turns to RVD and gives him a black hole slam! But suddenly it’s Mr. Anderson to the rescue and he goes to hit Abyss with the chair, but misses and hits Hardy! He stands and looks down at Jeff as if it was not a mistake, but no answers are given because he is taken up for shock treatment and laid out shortly thereafter.

Abyss looks on at the downed men in the ring and yells violently as we go off the air.
